Historic Treasure

Some say it was ground zero of the Civil War. After being burned down twice by guerilla fighters, the town is filled to the brim with historic significance.

Jayhawk Town

The Jayhawks were named for the freedom fighters in the pre-Civil War era, also known as Redleggers. It’s now a renowned midwestern university with a heavy focus on research.

The Kaw River

There’s more to explore than just the town’s history–the mighty Kaw River runs through the northern end of Lawrence. Hiking trails, kayaking and biking are popular pastimes for residents.

Naismith Legacy

Home of the original 13 Rules of Basketball written by Dr. James Naismith in 1891, visitors can find the document on display in the DeBruce Center on KU’s campus.

Mass Street

The most hopping place in Lawrence, Mass Street runs through the historic downtown. Eccentric shops, fun eats and high rise living abound!
